Swimming at the Wilder Kaiser

What could be nicer after a mountain tour in the Wilder Kaiser, a climbing session in a crag, a mountain bike ride or an excursion on an E-Bike – than diving into the refreshing water while enjoying a spectacular natural panorama? In the villages of Ellmau, Going, Scheffau and Söll diverse swimming attractions range from fun water areas to the cool waters of a secluded mountain lake.

KaiserBad Ellmau

Kaiserbad Ellmau is rightly deserved of its name "Imperial Bath", since it is located right at the foot of the majestic mountain range. While indulging yourself in the sauna warm water pool with the bubbly jacuzzi, you get to enjoy a fantastic view up to the summits of the Tuxeck and Treffauer peaks.

The Kaiserbad in Ellmau also offers its guests an imperial water area with luxurious indoor pool and a flow channel out into the outdoor pool, plus its own organic pond. Outside a superb water play area awaits children with water cannons and water mushroom fountain; a summer and winter slide provides non-stop swimming fun.

In contrast, comfortable tranquillity and relaxation is ensured in the thermal area, which sports a herb sauna and camomile steam bath. Take a deep breath in the eucalyptus grotto, enjoy the Finnish sauna in the block house which has an outdoor nudist area, relax on water beds, in infrared cabins and solarium.

Those who want to get more activity can put the tennis hall to good use, go for a game of squash or head to the climbing wall.

Ahornsee Söll

"Söll erfrischt" (Söll refreshes) in many ways - culinary, physically and in stamina. A dip in the new lake in the centre of the village is also an aspect of this.

The Ahornsee with depths down to eleven metres has been providing a fun place to cool down for locals and visitors alike since summer 2012.

With a surface area of over 10.000m² the new bathing lake is also used as a snow-making reservoir for Hochsöll.

The Ahornsee has four jetties, showers, a children area with reservoirs and water stations, a new kiosk and deckchairs and sunshades.

Bathing lake Going

The bathing lake Going is situated on the edge of a forest with a panoramic view of the Wilder Kaiser, an arms length away. An international jury voted it the loveliest natural bathing lake in Tyrol, and that's not just becauce it is fed from the mountain springs of the Wilder Kaiser.

On the flat white beach, the water in the separate childrens and non-swimmers bay warms up to a pleasant 24 degrees Celsius. A hundred metre long open air slide and an extra wide water slide make a good time at the loveliest natural lake in Tyrol a holiday hit, which you are sure to keep coming back to. While the children can run riot in the adventure playground with a pirate ship, the adults can fortify themselves at the lake buffet or sunbathe on the 50.000 m² of surrounding grass and breathe in the fresh mountain air.

You can wear yourself out as much as you like and feel like you're on a beach holiday in "JoeRassics Beacharena" at Going's Badesee - the largest beach volleyball facility in west Austria with 4 competition courts and a warm up court. Going Badesee is open from 9am to 7pm in good weather!

Lake Hintersteinersee in Scheffau

In the midst of the Wilder Kaiser nature conservation area, some four kilometres above the town of Scheffau, at an altitude of 883 metres, the loveliest and cleanest mountain lake in Tirol - Lake Hintersteinersee – lies hidden. This lake, with its turquoise blue water in which the craggy summits of the Kaisergebirge mountain range are reflected, exerts an enduring quiet fascination.

The lake, whose water is drinking water quality, has a small swimming area with a café on its southern banks. As an ideal starting point for hikes and mountain tours in the south-west foothills of the Wilder Kaiser, the crystal-clear natural gem that is Lake Hintersteinersee also provides some welcome refreshment after a descent.
